One thing some people have mentioned - who don't give any fucks about nations bullshit - is that they wouldn't mind a restart too much if they were able to download the current map.

Also, this is major decision and doesn't take into account players who don't visit the wiki, so it is not really representative of the whole playerbase, though perhaps the most dedicated. — Sikandar 2013/02/22 01:29

I intend to periodically spam #chat with the link to this page and information on how to vote. Unless I don't follow through on that for some reason, I don't see any reason why this vote shouldn't be binding. — V1adimirr 2013/02/22 02:32

I simply enjoy building with a small group of friends and do not really participate in the servers' politics. So long as I'm able to access backups somehow, I'm less adverse to the idea. This concept of a new map seems geared towards players who have been on the server for a while, interested in empire-building, tire from stagnation, and pine for times that will never return when many people frequented the server with people who will never return to the game. Players who have joined at later dates or do not really participate in nations have little to gain from this, but more to lose. This group of players accounts for most who are actively playing, with my small group of players and the recent influx of Poles who recently joined. They are not usually vocal with server politics or the wiki, but we exist as a chunk of the server's population. — hino 2013/02/22 03:54

I think now is the time for said individuals to make their voices heard. Also I might be for having two maps and leaving oceania for a freebuild and possibly creative.
This doesn't really have anything to do with nation building in my mind. The reason you may be perceiving this, however, is because those people that realize this map is not as good as it can be are those people who have been around for other maps. Those people also tend to have played with nations. It's not that we want more nations or to change the map because of nations, we simply happen to play with nations and we also happen to have been around to know that things can be more fun than they are now. The current map can absolutely be downloaded and absolutely still enjoyed. Nothing you have made will be lost forever. All that is being proposed is that we start a new map online. — V1adimirr 2013/02/22 05:42

who are these fucking people? -shako

On an old server kovio and I played on the admin built a huge ship and told everyone there was a week until the server switched. On that ship there was a couple double chests for each player, everyone was told that if they wanted anything from this old map that they should put it in their marked chests. Then when the map switched over they world edited the ship in and everyone grabbed their stuff and headed off. I thought it was a pretty nifty idea on how to change maps, maybe we could try something similar. Anyway just food for thought. — green kitten 2013/02/22 11:35

we could do that with the ship ca is bitching to keep. have it land at“virgin lands”. I like this idea very much.

How about the Multiverse plugin? If we get it up and working again, we could visit not just Oceania, but all the other older maps. Other than that, i still have to make up my mind for this decision.
In case of a new map, it'd be nice if V1adimirr himself, that wants so much to feel again, bringed his arse to the middle of an Xboxhueg ocean (with only one island on it, naturally) and helped me carve another Kriegstein, bigger and fancier than the original.Ranshiin, the Feeldragon 2013/02/22 12:40

if we do a multiverse, please mod let there be more than one channel for talk

I like the idea of taking the ship over. caBst seemed to be really against the map switch, and this would get him on our side. I also don't like 'if' being used to talk about the multiverse. I'm not the one who has to set it up, so sorry if I'm too demanding, but I think a guarantee of it would get most of the “no” votes to open up to the idea of a new map.

Has te3 heard about the planned change? What's his opinion? If this is definitely going to happen, I think there should be a dedicated page explaining just what is going to happen, why it isn't as bad as you might think at first, and planned nations/building projects for the new server. Then we can spam the server chat with it (though it seems mostly dead now that everyone knows about the plan for the new map), and make posts on KC and possibly /v/ or /tg/ recruiting people for the new map. The promise of new opportunity should let us make up for most of those we lose because of the change. -Smultanius

AlphaBernd said that he's going to change map only when there will be an update requesting this, but isn't fact that nether has to be reseted enough to do that? We will lose railways in nether with creation of new one and adding quartz to nether manually is really hard to do. Also, existing railways and other redstone stuff built will be obsolete. It'd be like switching map back to 1.7, new update brings too many changes. — Koinu

To Koinu: We had a discussion about resetting only the nether, a few weeks ago, that implied reasons as simple as new chunks with quartz and a railway with more ordnung. It is not enough of a reason to reset a whole map if you can limit the change to where it is really needed, no? — Ranshiin Feeldragon 2013/02/23 11:20

I'm sure that while making new railways, many old places will be forgotten. Also about those places, maybe some players that stay all the time close to their settlements and the newest spawn don't feel it, but for a long time the only way to get to my settlement was going through Eien-Kyo and believe me, its abandoned walls aren't a nice sight. Seeing all this abandoned stuff is terrible. If you're not sure just go to the oldest spawn or take a rail to any abandoned settlement and see it yourself. Same goes for isolated places. I have the same feeling when i'm in Alisa, there're never any people around. It's like single player game. As it was said, we're losing the main point of playing a multiplayer game. — Koinu

As i previously said, and as i will repeat at nauseum, that's not a good justification to throw away this map. — Ranshiin 2013/02/23 14:45
