The Netherway

The Netherway is a series of tunnels connecting the portals for all major cities in the world into the Nether, inside a secured tunnel system, to decrease travel times.

Netherway 1.0 had a problem with it's portal links, making transportation from weak linked portals arduous and haphazard

The netherway was constructed near the inception of the server, the first being in the Wizard Tower, providing a link between the far spanning nations. However, it suffered from lack of precise portal linking and decentralized netherway channels. This meant that the originator of a portal might not control it if someone built another portal closer to the link that it's nether-based twin linked to. In addition to this, the gates weren't set at a constant elevation, introducing even more room for link errors and making traveling between gates within the nether inefficient.

Construction Progress

  • On July 2nd, 2011, mutestory put the nether temporarily on hiatus and linked only the four major cities: Kurwa, Bernd, Astonia, and Oymyakón.
  • On July 3rd, Londonabad, Batt.X, Deitan and Lakota Wildlands were added.
  • On July 4th, griefing was performed on nether gates by spartan261, which held up progress. Kaiserstadt and Tangaloa(nation name?) were added to the network. Confirmation is needed from Tangaloa.
  • On July 6th, most of the open netherway (codenamed 'gateway') was finished from Kurwa to Batt.x to Oymyakon. Within this open area, the International Trading Post was established and stocked.
  • On July 7th new inventory began to take place of a large swath of new settlements adding gates (this may be faster than having mutestory do it, but its also less secure in that it has not been checked as a direct link).
  • On July 10th, Spurdola, Byzantium, and Gruvby were confirmed as semi full-linked portals.
  • On July 30th, Papeete was confirmed as a full-link portal.
  • On August 20th, Katynsk became part of the Netherway too.
  • On the 1st of September, the Principality of Ajulaiis Parw was added to the network.

All portals in the nether are at y coordinate 60, which keeps travel unobstructed along an even plane and promotes regularity in direct links. 60 was chosen because of its proximity to sea level.

Settlement Nether X Nether Z
Londonabad -254 -84
Deitan -261 -165
Bernd -9 4
Oymyakón 18 38
Astonia 126 34
Batt.X 98 240
Kurwa * *
Freie Hansastadt Bremen/Kaiserstadt -245 -264
Hamburg -98 -338
Byzantium -153 121
Papeete -181*2 -131*2
Katynsk -24*2 206*2
Principality of Ajulaiis Parw 314 160

*Not listed due to lack of direct link and minor but constant location change
*2 Unchecked coordinates. Portal made by third party.

Currently, Kurwa, Bernd, Kaiserstadt, Astonia, Oymyakon, Londonabad, Batt.X, Deitan, and the Lakota Wildlands are connected to the netherway.

Soon more direct routes between portals will be underway. The end goal is to basically have an open flat plane, upon which the most direct route to any portal is a straight line.

A possible goal in the long term is to create a rail system between some of the longer cities, such as Londonbad or Lakota Wildlands.

A map will soon be accessible, as well as coordinates for each portal.

Kurwa needs a more reliable portal than what it has. Perhaps a direct link to KWS Krazanov would be a good candidate for a main portal.

To note, Breshik Does not allow he building of NetherGates. So, everyone build a bunch there.
